Production restarted at Maruti's Manesar plant

With the management of Maruti-Suzuki lifting the month long lockout, activity resumed at it's Manesar plant. But the management is running the plant with only 300 workers and single shift only. To avoid any untoward incidents, Haryana government deployed large number of police at the factory. The management also deployed one hundred security personnel on their own.

On 18th of last month, a clash occurred between the management and workers, which resulted a death of senior employee and many injured. This has triggered a series of events, and on 21st of July, company announced lockout. 500 permanent workers and 500 temporary workers who were allegedly related to the riots in the factory were sacked by the management. The company experienced a loss of Rs. 100 crores, with this labour unrest.

The Manesar plant, which makes the company's fastest selling hatchback model Swift, now could produce only 150 cars a day with this limited number of workers. Earlier it has been producing 1500 to 1700 cars a day.
