Sonia ranked 6th in Forbes list of most powerful women


In the Forbes magazine’s list of world’s most powerful women for the year 2012, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi is ranked 6th. The first rank is given to German chancellor Angela Merkel, while Hillary Clinton, secretary of state of USA government, is ranked second.

Another three Indian women also got place in the list, which was released yesterday. Padmasri Warrior, who is holding key position in Cisco Systems and Chandana Kochchar, CEO of ICICI Bank are ranked 58 and 59 respectively. Biocon Limited’s founder Kiran Majumdar Shaw is given 80th rank. India born American, Indrani Nooyi, CEO of Pepsico is placed at 12th.

The list is made by calculating the capability of influence, business and media presence of women. America’s first lady, Michelle Obama, who was the number one in the 2010 list, is in number 7 now.
