Very Very Special Laxman bids adieu to international cricket

Stylish batsman, Telugu Tejam VVS Laxman said good bye to international cricket. An announcement was made by him on this today at his home town Hyderabad in an emotion packed press conference. 37 year old Laxman, who was recently selected for the New Zealand series, is not going to play in it.

In his 16 year career, Laxman scored 17 centuries in 134 tests and 6 centuries in 86 one-day internationals. In the test cricket, he scored 8781 runs at an average of 45.97, where as, in the one-days, he scored 2338 runs at an average of 30.76. One remarkable point in his career is, his best innings was always against Australia. His first greatest achievement of 167 runs is against Australia in Sydney in the year 2000. His all-time highest score of 281, at Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the year 2001, was also against Australia. Laxman made six out of 17 test centuries against Australia. That is why Aussies fear of Laxman innings.

Laxman said that he took this decision after listening to the inner conscience. He also said that it was the right time to leave and youngsters get chances. But veteran cricketers like Gavaskar, Kapil termed Laxman’s decision, a retrograde step.
