Setback for AP Government and Dinesh Reddy

Andhra Pradesh government and DGP Dinesh Reddy faced a major setback today. Andhra Pradesh High Court dismissed government’s petition, which challenged the Central Administrative Tribunal’s orders to cancel the appointment of Dinesh Reddy as DGP. Court also ordered to send the DGP level officers’ list to the UPSC. It also directed that to constitute an committee to appoint new DGP within one week. Dinesh Reddy should continue as DGP, till the new one takes over. High court also fined the state government an amount of Rs.5,000, for wasting the time of the court.

But the bottom line is the two senior IPS officers, who were eligible and competed for the coveted post, Gowtham Kumar and Umesh Kumar are now not in a position to take over the post. Gowtham Kumar recently has taken voluntary retirement and Umesh Kumar was suspended by the government on forgery allegations.

We have to wait and watch, whether government will go to Supreme Court or appoint a new DGP. But, as per some analysis, as Dinesh Reddy is the senior most of all IPS officers in the state, it is likely that he would continue as DGP.
